Michael Disley
Illustrator from United Kingdom · 29 artworks
Michael Disley is a british sculptor and artist whose paintings and prints draw on forty years of carving stone, granite and marble. Closely linked, his two- dimensional and sculptural works reflect an interest in form and material with an underlying sense of humour with runs through all of his work.
Michael studied sculpture in Sunderland and continued to develop his craft later, through formal training as an architectural stone mason, carving elements of churches and listed buildings.
He has created over a hundred large scale public and private works in stone and granite across the U.K and Ireland. In 1993 he travelled to Zimbabwe to live and work with the Shona stone sculptors in Harare. Further travels and commissions in Japan, China and India broadened his understanding of materials, techniques and artistic traditions.
A recent solo show has brought paintings, prints and sculpture together, highlighting the connection between these strands of his practise.
