Joshua Hoskins
Illustrator from Germany · 87 artworks

Joshua Hoskins grew up in Southern California and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004. In 2017, he moved to Berlin, where his studio is currently located.

His creative process is based on the idea that the meaning of an artwork is unknown until it is engaged with by a viewer. This meaning is personal and resides in the viewer’s imagination, while the artist’s intention is merely a suggestion. Art’s cultural meaning is constantly evolving through the interaction between the culture in which it is embedded and the viewers.

Hoskins also views art as a technology, which assumes new functionality. Unlike typical technology, which focuses on purpose, art as technology transcends beliefs and leads to new insights into reality. Art becomes an interface, altering perception and inviting viewers to look beyond the depicted image, offering a conduit to deeper understandings of the world.
